GOLDIE:
Goldie, along with his brother Brownie, was left behind when his family had to move to another state. Being much more outgoing than Brownie, Goldie has adjusted to the change more easily. He’s 100% lap dog, and is very laid back. When he’s not in your lap, you might find him curled up at your feet or rolling over asking for belly rubs. While he was raised in a home with children, he hasn’t been around toddlers since he was a pup, and would prefer to hang with an older crowd (6 and up). He gets along with dogs and cats alike, but people are really his passion! Goldie has very nice house manners and will not require crating when making the adjustment to his new home. He is 6 years old, neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and has been microchipped.

Because Brownie and Goldie have spent their lives together, we are trying our best to keep them together. They are an adorable pair, and really seem to be inseparable, even after being in a foster home with other dogs. We will consider adopting them to separate homes under exceptional circumstances. Applicants should have previous experience with dogs, preferably with breeds that require regular care and grooming. Past experience with cocker spaniels is a plus! A fenced in yard is preferred, however applicants in apartments or homes without a fence will be considered.

Cocker Spaniels are a breed that require a lot of care. Grooming must be done every 6-8 weeks, and they should be brushed twice a week. The breed is prone to ear infections therefore their ears should be tended to regularly (minimum once a week and sometimes daily). They can also be prone to minor eye infections, so their eyes must be kept clean. Because cockers can also be susceptible to skin conditions, feeding a high quality food is important. All of this adds up, and you can expect to spend $1,200 annually on a healthy cocker spaniel. As with any dog, ownership is a long term commitment. The average life span of a cocker spaniel is 12-14 years.
