Iris, a beautiful 4 year old Labrador Retriever mix, ready to find a place to call HOME.

A rose is a rose is a rose. But what does it take to be an Iris!. We didn’t name this girl but thought we would look into what it means to be named Iris. Iris is a genus of 260–300 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species. Maybe Iris is a good name for this girl after all. She has a bright and colorful spirit.

Iris lives in a foster home with me, Becky, the founder of ADRATI and my brother, Travis, and our Mom, who the dogs all know as Meemaw. She is great with all of us so she likes men and women. Although we have no children in the home, we believe she would do well with children.

She is house trained and has good house manners but is crated when no one is home. She rides very nice in the car and does very well traveling even long distances. She has been groomed a few times and has no issues having everything done including nail trims, ears cleaned, brushing, etc.

She walks well on lead and knows how to sit. She is extremely smart and would enjoy obedience training or anything you want to spend time teaching her. She is very much a retriever and loves for you to spend time throwing the tennis ball. She could go all day.

She is really good with other dogs, male and female. She can be a little bossy around toys but responds well when told to “leave it” when she tries to be in charge of a toy another dog has.

Iris is spayed, up to date on all of her vaccines, micro chipped, heartworm negative and on heartworm and flea and tick preventatives.

She is in a home with a six foot privacy fence. We don’t know if she would try to climb or jump or dig out of a fence. We do know that she is very attentive to the squirrels that go over the utility lines over the yard and can jump pretty high. She is not left unattended at her foster home while in the yard. Given time to bond with her family she will most likely just settle into a home and love her family and not see any reason to look back.

We think that Iris is a pretty good fit for a large variety of potential homes, including first time adopters. It may take a little time to get settled in, she is a rescue dog, but with some time and patience and love, you will find a wonderful family member in this girl. She has an active, playful side and a let’s hang out and have family time side too.

Iris is in rescue with ADRATI K9 Rescue located in Richmond VA. Our website is We do have an adoption process and adoption fee that is all detailed on our website. We do limit our adoptions to about an hour radius around the Richmond area. Please share the story of Iris and help find her a home. We thank you and Iris thanks you.
